I spend an inordinate amount of time roaming the web, traversing newsletters, absorbing podcasts and thought it was high-time to share some of the love back with friends and family.

The email will come out every other week. Why every other week? Because it hits the sweet spot between the fast pace of weekly and the print like magazine slowness of monthly.

Personal experiment: Wim Hof

I took an 3-month online Wim Hof course, which consisted of deep breath work and cold exposure. Each week ramped up the amount of cold exposure and separately work on deep breathing to improve lung capacity.

Why did I do this? After hearing about him through word of mouth and watching this documentary, I decided it was worth trying.  I was also skeptical that it would improve my lung capacity and wanted to test it myself.

Wim’s breathing method consists of taking a deep breath in and exhaling unforced through the mouth.

I meticulously tallied up my breath results and charted it out below.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my breath holds did increase. My starting average went from 1:42 and finished at 2:22.  For someone who gets nervous surfing any wave above 3 feet for fear of drowning this was a confidence booster.
