When you hear the words “Artificial Intelligence”, what are the first four things that come to your mind?

Artificial Intelligence has become part of our daily conversation. It’s very hard to spend 1 week without hearing people talking about AI or being part of that conversation. When I think about AI, there are many things that come to my mind: productivity, safety, energy, and inequality. With AI, we are able to do many things in a short period of time. For example, AI takes less time to translate an English document into a French document. Even if it cannot be totally accurate, with the assistance of someone else, the work can be done in less time. However, AI also poses a high safety threat to human beings around the world. It has been found that depression is skyrocketing in youth who consume social media more, especially young girls. Moreover, AI companies consume a lot of energy in order to perform simple work. As competition increases in AI companies, the production of energy that harms our atmosphere also increases. Finally, AI has expanded inequality among the rich and the poor and also among people of color. For example, many AI tend to predict that people of color have a high probability of being criminals, which is based on the limited data that it has.

What do we gain by having AI in our everyday lives?

With AI, productivity has expanded. Now, AI technologies can assist us in translating document from one language to another in short period of time.

What do we lose by having AI in our daily lives?

With AI, inequality has expand expanded especially among under represented communities. AI can not for example be able to translate Kinyarwanda, a language that is spoken in my country, Rwanda, into other language like english or french.

For example, It detect the apple juice to be soap despenser. I was thinking it easy detect that it’s a juice considering the apple image on the bottle. I am curious to know if there are factor that make it detect object better than others.
