This work began with the English proverb “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.” I applied this proverb to the macroscopic world, the reality we live in, and used it as a lens to satirize the contradictions that play out around us, as well as the paradoxical lives many people lead.
To construct that satire, I turned to the concept of quantum “superposition” from Schrödinger’s cat experiment, borrowing from the microscopic world. Regardless of whether a quantum multiverse truly exists or not, what I wanted to highlight is that every person, as an entity situated within this single universe—the macroscopic world—cannot escape causal influence.
And to allow viewers to project this idea onto various situations, I intentionally avoided specifying concrete narratives in the text of the piece, leaving only the structural message visible.
The “Acoustic Layer” music selections suggested at the bottom of the artwork description page offer an example of this intended atmosphere. For this piece, I paired Nino Rota’s theme from The Godfather with The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want.
In The Godfather, the mafia invoke noble ideals such as family and honor while, in reality, engaging in murder, violence, and extortion—yet in their personal lives they long for love and peace. Perhaps such coexistence is possible in another universe or in dreams, but within this universe, within the macroscopic world, they remain subject to causal consequence; therefore, these desires ultimately cannot be realized.
From another perspective, as the lyrics of You Can’t Always Get What You Want suggest, we cannot always have what we want, but if we keep trying, we may instead gain what we truly need. Rather than forcing unreasonable desires, we should trust the natural flow and devote ourselves to doing what is right, in the right way.

그리고 이러한 기본 원리는 관람자로 하여금 다양한 상황에 빗대어 볼 수 있도록 하기 위해 메시지 자체에는 구체적인 상황으로 특정하지 않고 골조만 드러나게 한 것 입니다.

또 다른 관점으로는, The Rolling Stones의 You can't always get what you want의 노랫말처럼, 원하는 것을 항상 가질 수 있는 것은 아니지만, 노력하다 보면 대신 내게 필요한 것을 얻게 될 수도 있으니 억지스러운 욕심을 부리기 보다는 자연스러운 흐름에 맡기고 올바른 방법으로 최선을 다하는 자세가 중요함을 얘기하고 싶었습니다.
