What if you did everything “right” and still felt empty? This message dives into the older brother side of the Prodigal story—the loyal one, the responsible one, the one who never left…but low-key resents everybody else’s party. We talk burnout, overachieving, feeling invisible, and the lie that you have to earn love from God or anyone else. If you’re exhausted from striving, comparing, or constantly proving you’re “enough,” this is for you. Discover a God who isn’t a slave driver, and a love you don’t have to perform for—you just receive.
Main Thought:
God never meant for serving Him to feel like slavery.
Scripture Reading:
Luke 15:25–30
“All these years I’ve been slaving for you…” (v. 29)
The older brother stayed home. He worked hard. He obeyed. But in his heart, it started to feel like slavery. He said, “All these years I’ve been slaving for you.” That shows how he saw his father.
This can happen to us too. We read our Bible, go to church, serve in ministry, and do “all the right things.” These are good things. But if we start to feel like we have to do them so God will love us, we’ve forgotten who He really is.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t only give us power to serve; He also gives us joy and love while we serve. Serving God should flow from love, not fear.
