Apple Watch Calorie Bonus

When you first sync the Apple Watch to Lose It!, the Apple Watch Calorie Burn Bonus section on the Log under Exercise will appear confirming the sync has been completed.

For example, let’s say Harper wants to sync their Apple Watch to Lose It!. After connecting Apple Watch, they’ll see the Apple Watch Calorie Burn Bonus section below on their Log.

Harper will see their Projected Burn which is the number of calories burned that Harper's Apple Watch reported at that time. As the day progresses, Harper wears their Apple Watch and burns calories throughout the day going through their normal daily routine such as walking to/from work, driving their car, going grocery shopping, cleaning their house, etc. They'll notice that their Projected Burn increases throughout the day.

The Target Burn is what Lose It! estimates Harper will burn on a daily basis. This is calculated using Harper's personal activity level. When Harper's Projected Burn exceeds the Target Burn, Harper will begin to earn a calorie bonus.

After Harper finishes their workday, they decide to go for a walk. They decide to log their walking activity in the Lose It! app and notice the following:

The calorie burn from the walking exercise is crossed off their Log, and they notice the phrase “1 workout included” under the Apple Watch Calorie Bonus section.

By default, Lose It! assumes Harper is wearing their Apple Watch while walking and their Projected Burn is already including their walking activity. To avoid double-counting the walking activity, Lose It! will exclude the calories burned when the walking activity is separately logged.

At the end of the day, the Projected Burn changes over to the Total Burn, which is the final number of total calories your Apple Watch reported you burned that day.

Calorie Bonus Decreasing

<aside> 👉 **For the most accurate calorie bonus projection, we recommend that you do not remove your watch until the end of your day.

If you remove your watch while it is connected mid-day, you may end up eating over your calorie budget.**

This is because when wearing your watch, Lose It! gets live resting calorie data from Apple Health, which we use to estimate your calorie bonus. Here are the factors that go into your bonus projection:

When the watch is taken off, it’s possible that Apple Health cannot report any resting calories.

When you put your watch back on, Apple Health will report the same value for your resting energy as before, but the percentage of the day remaining will change. This could cause your calorie bonus to decrease.
