Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a surgical procedure performed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves in the neck. The procedure begins with a small incision made in the front of the neck. The affected disc is removed, relieving the pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. To stabilize the spine, a bone graft is placed in the space left by the disc. Sometimes, a metal plate may be used to provide additional support. Over time, the bone graft fuses with the adjacent vertebrae, promoting spinal stability and reducing symptoms caused by the damaged disc.
