most common injury from snake bites is the local wound.

Proteases and lipases in the venom damage tissue locally.

Hemolytic toxin --> hemolysis and DIC

Neurotoxin --> resp: paralysis, ptosis, diplopia, and dysphagia

NO tourniquets, NO ice, NO incision and suction esp by mouth

Spider Bites

Black widow: Brown recluse:
Presentation abd pain, muscle pain local skin necrosis, bullae, and blebs
Lab test abnormalities may show hypocalcemia None
Treatment calcium and antivenin debridement, steroids, and dapsone.

Dog and Cat Bites

Pathogens: mainly Pasteurella multocida and P.  canis

often mixed with Staph., Strep. and Capnocytophaga canimorsus
