We think there are so many benefits to async working. We're big fans. (Just check out our Flexible Working Policy @ Impala to see what we mean).
But we recognise that everyone is different, and Remote and Async working does also have its challenges and considerations for different personality types.
We want everyone at Impala to feel seen and supported. And it helps to be really clear and explicit on a number of things in a remote and async environment - so we wanted to do the same regarding getting the most out of our remote and async environment here...
So, here we spotlight how to make the most of Remote working as an Extrovert and as an Introvert... ✨
Extroverts
Dictionaries define an extrovert as an outgoing, socially confident person; or an "energetic person who enjoys being with other people". In psychological terms, extroversion is where someone "recharges,” or draws energy, from being with other people.
Downsides of being an extrovert in a remote, flexible Impala
- Less time in an office means less constant interactions at work.
- Social connections and chats take place regularly via Slack, so socialising with colleagues can feel less organic.
- Feeling of less 'shared experience' with colleagues.
Benefits of being an extrovert in a remote, flexible Impala:
- So much more time and freedom for personal social activities.
- Build deeper and connections with friends outside work.
- Budget provided for co-working membership so you can meet more folks that way.
How to make the most of a remote, flexible Impala as an extrovert
- Feel free to attend literally all of our built-in social activities throughout the week. Guaranteed there are more 'social blocks' in the calendar than there would be in a colocated office. e.g Lunch Buddies, Pop-Up Parties, Monthly socials, Donuts, and more!
- Feel free to create your own Slack channel for community/ies that you align with - to build deeper connections with others at work, around specific topics, hobbies or beliefs.
- Create your own organic spontaneous Gather.Town event if you're feeling social at any point - you don't have to wait for the People Ops team to arrange a social. Or just invite someone randomly to a 30 minute coffee break, al desko!
- Use your Workplace budget on a coworking membership near you. These are great places to meet people outside of Impala!
- Find out if any Impalan/s live nearby you, and reach out to them to arrange some time to colocate, grab a coffee, or even go to dinner/drinks. Remember you can expense £10 per week on food/drinks if you met up with a fellow Impalan.
- Make the most of working remotely by seeing your out-of-work friends regularly. Book in mid-week coffees, lunches, gym sessions, and more. Make the most of true flexibility!
- Join #coffee-friends on Slack to join in with Donuts - to be randomly assigned someone to meet up with each week.
- Come visit us in the London office some time! Check our ‣ policy, or speak to a People Ops team member.
