Amy Chin is a McKay High School graduate from the class of 2008. She was involved with Student Government throughout her time at McKay and served as the Senior Class President her final year. You can credit the start of the humongous class poster competitions during spirit week to Amy’s desire to make her class one to not be forgotten. Amy also participated in cheerleading, LINK, Future Business Leaders of America, and spent time volunteering outside of school at Salem Hospital. Following high school, she went onto Linfield College to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. There, she continued to be involved with extracurricular activities such as Greek life as a Phi Sigma Sigma sister and a member of the Pre-nursing club. After completing pre-requisites, Amy was accepted into Linfield’s nursing program and finished the last two years of college at Linfield’s Portland campus. She graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and passed the NCLEX exam to practice as a Registered Nurse.

A difficult time for new graduate nurses, it took Amy nearly a ear to get a job, as many hospitals and clinics were facing hiring freezes or only accepting nurses with experience. With some patience, Amy was accepted into Salem Hospital’s RN New Grad Program and worked as a nurse on a medical surgical unit. There, she became a charge nurse, a preceptor for new nurses, and was involved in several hospital committees. Feeling burnt out and needing a new change after 3 years, Amy was accepted into Salem Hospital’s Operating Room Nurse Internship and found her niche in nursing. She was nominated by an anesthesiologist and received a team award for going above and beyond in helping save a patient’s life during a vascular procedure.

Aside from her professional life, Amy happily married in 2015 and spent quite some time traveling with her husband to South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and several different states within the U.S. The summer of 2019 was the most life changing as Amy and her husband welcomed their first son, Greyson
