🪴 What is this list

This is a non-exhaustive list of foundations, collectives, schools, institutes, and organizations that work at the intersection of technology, human rights (e.g. free speech, digital privacy), democracy, and equity.

🌵 Some context

As a Stanford (’17) product design and art practice grad, I naively assumed my career options were limited to start-ups and F.A.N.G., but this is not the case. People all over the world are designing, building, and maintaining technology and technical systems that protect and augment human rights and aim to flatten hierarchies rather than create new ones. What’s most exciting to me about these alternatives is their imaginative promise.
