This page will describe what exactly the MixMob Racer 1 Alpha is and what to expect in terms of its functionality. Generally speaking, an alpha game is a playable early-access version that gives players the opportunity to test the unfinished, largely representative, gameplay and assets, which might be partially finished or implemented. It’s an exploratory phase where features haven’t yet been locked down. An alpha version usually has limited functionality and serves the purpose of giving players an overall idea of what the game will be like. It is often based on the prototype created in the pre-production phase. It’s also a great way to collect feedback from players and ensure that the game is fun, playable, and secure.

A game might undergo numerous design and feature iterations. As a result, the alpha game release might look quite different from the final game release. It’s an opportunity for players to participate in the game development cycles and provide feedback to the development team, helping them understand what works and what doesn’t work from the user experience perspective. It also helps address simple questions, such as whether the game is actually fun or if it has something unique to offer the players, etc.

Moreover, in big companies, an alpha version of a game sometimes plays the role of a pitch idea that must be reviewed and approved by the executives/publisher in order for the development team to continue. In indie game development, an alpha game pass might also represent a funding model by which consumers can purchase and play a game in the various pre-release development cycles. The capital raised in the alpha stage gives the team the funds to continue developing the game; a great example of such a model is Stardew Valley. In the case of MixMob Racer 1, since we passed the investment round already, the primary focus of the alpha game is our promise to include our community in building the game we all want; therefore, alpha gamers’ feedback is critical and valuable to the team.

Given our open development process, we are looking for people to participate like they are part of our team. People that participate typically help to debug the game, provide feedback and suggestions, and maybe be granted access to special assets in the game before anyone else. The first round of features offered in the alpha may be further revised based on testing and feedback. Additional features may be added while other unimplemented features may be dropped.
