About the Event: The Africa Debate Cup is a continental debating competition that brings British Parliamentary debate to secondary schools across Africa. In 2024, the University of Ibadan British Parliamentary Debating Society partnered with the Africa Debate Cup to extend the competition beyond Lagos and establish an Ibadan edition for the first time.

About My Role: As Communications Lead and Head of Research for the University of Ibadan British Parliamentary Debating Society, I managed the end-to-end communications effort that made the Ibadan edition possible. To bring the competition to life, I took on three distinct responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  1. School Outreach & Coordination (Reached out to secondary schools across Ibadan, liaised with assigned school trainers, and organised training sessionsincluding teaching some sessions myself.)

Key Results

  1. Successfully extended the Africa Debate Cup to Ibadan for the first time, partnering with 16 secondary schools.
  2. Mobilised 64+ participants across preliminary rounds and a grand final.
  3. Designed and produced promotional materials including a flyer and video reel.
