I’m Yudhanjaya Wijeratne (@yudhanjaya).

I do a bunch of things that intersect:

I’m mostly a writer. I write novels and short stories (mostly SFF), have contributed to games, been nominated for awards like the Nebula and the IGF and showed up on Forbes’ 30 under 30.  Some of my books have been bestsellers.

I do some work with the SciFi Economics Lab, architecting fictional societies based on viable alternate economic structures. I also work with LIRNEasia , a think tank working across the Global South, on the intersection between data, algorithms and government policy.

I experiment with using AI  to co-write with (see OSUN / The Poetry Machine and The Salvage Crew ). You may have seen some of my work exhibited online, like here.

I’m also a programmer, a data scientist (primarily focusing on NLP and corpus linguistics) and an investigative journalist.

Most of my published research is on social networks and natural language processing, especially on building corpora and machine learning tools for resource-poor languages like Sinhala.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of Appendix.tech, a media x technology operation that fights misinformation (**Watchdog Sri Lanka)**, builds software to help in times of crisis (Watchdog Elixir, Lanka.Kitchen), and fills information gaps between people and the government.
