A bit of background context before I begin, this was a quick project which I did last year for Varun Raikar, who is an AR Filter Creator. My role was here as a UI Designer whereas Varun took care of developing the website on Webflow as well as providing constant feedback to the designs.

The Objective

Varun needed a website that would serve as a portfolio of all AR filters he had created and would be proof of work he would share with his potential clients. He already had a YouTube channel where he teaches people to make AR filters as well as was growing in client base.

A bit of looking around

AR Filters is a new way of marketing which brands were waking up to slowly and there weren't many who created AR filters for brands yet. Most of the ones which actually did were agencies which also offered other services. So, we went through various landing pages which offered this as a service.

We tried to figure out what were some of the things all of these had in common. All of them conveyed what they did and how they did it. But no one of them gave a reason to potential customers on why exactly they would need an AR filter and what were its pros. So, we decide to show this as a section on our page. To be honest, even we didn't think of it right away when we started with designing, it was added in later stages of designing.

I didn't actually make wireframes for it since we were working through this really quick. So, I made a quick sketch of how our landing page would look initially. I didn't pick up the pencil and paper after that (I don't think I would consider that a mistake because it was easier for me to visualize stuff on screen than on paper for this project)

Designing the landing page

Major iterations we worked on and then changed :

• Started off with a light mode and then moved on to dark mode
• Moved from Sans to a Serif font because we wanted a more sleek and professional look ( Dark mode + Serif 🖤)
• Tried out couple of colour schemes before we settled for Purple + Black
• As I had mentioned earlier, we decided to add the why AR filters section in the later stages of design.
• We wanted to show the no of impressions we had got (400k in 14 days is nothing short of an achievement), but the way we were projecting it in our initial designs made it seem like made-up numbers, so we went ahead with a subtle approach to that part.
