AEFI

The points to be considered for providing information about potential Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) include:

• Reassuring the recipient or their caregiver that certain AEFIs such as fever, pain, or swelling at the injection site are common following immunization. These reactions indicate a good response to the vaccine.
• Other instructions

• Maintaining hydration by consuming extra fluids (breast milk or clean water in case of infants)

• Use of paracetamol in appropriate doses (only if required)

• Use a clean, cold, damp cloth to ease pain at the local injection site.

• Reporting to the nearest health center if any AEFIs worsen or persist more than a day or two.

The possible allergens in vaccines include -

• Gelatin
• Egg
• Cow's milk
• Antimicrobial agents
• Yeast
• Aluminum
• Natural rubber latex (NRL).

During administering vaccinations, patients should be enquired about the history of any adverse events. These include:

2. Any adverse events like fever, rashes, etc.
