Description:

This episode is a reflection episode. Episode 33 discusses a breakthrough I recently had and how this breakthrough inspired some really exciting changes that are coming to the podcast.

I discuss:

Breakdown of what is discussed & additional thoughts:

  1. I’ve always loved writing and felt that words are my gift - but they’re also what I struggle with the most for two main reasons: 1.) Trauma has taught me that I have to be perfect with everything I do. and 2.) The fear of being misunderstood. What if I say the wrong thing? What if someone misinterprets what I say? What if I stumble over my words and someone makes fun of me? I often either talk and talk until I find the correct words or just don’t speak my mind at all - because I don’t believe that I can say the right thing anyways. This is really hard for me, but I am learning to let go of these deep-rooted beliefs. I don’t need to be perfect for connection. Just like I can understand someone even when they stumble over their words or struggle to find words for their thoughts, others can do the same for me. Most people are kind and understanding. Words are so hard for me because they are my gift & I care so much!
  2. I struggle with expressing myself because I was taught that I have to make myself small in order to feel loved. I am often terrified to put myself out there/be the center of attention due to the fear that I may be rejected.
  3. Overthinking is actually a gift & a superpower! In my own experience as an overthinker, it is one of the most stressful and anxiety-inducing qualities of mine. When we overthink, our brains are actually telling us that we need to release some energy - creative energy. So, the next time you start overthinking, create instead!
  4. The changes coming to my podcast: I will be making two different types of episodes, Insight Episodes and Reflection Episodes.

Journal Prompt of the Week:

Write in your journal about something you’re struggling with, but don’t try to fix it. Just focus on the feelings that come up. You can think about solutions later.
