Weekend #1
The goal is to experience a lot of meaningful things, and also try to capture verbally what exactly the sources of meaning are, for us.
- Meaning in Nature. We'll walk in the woods of Presidio, experiencing what's meaningful there and using special software to try to capture it in words, in a database.
- Different Kinds of Socializing. We'll talk together about the kinds of conversation we find meaningful (intellectual explorations, deep honesty, group poetry, whatever the participants are into) and then try to engineer those conversations by making games for them.
- Breaking Out of Our Typical Persona. We'll play Group Practice: Out of Character, supporting each other in trying on "out of character" selves and seeing if we can find meaningful ways of being that are unusual for us.
After each exercise, we'll try to be precise about the source of meaning involved, and to database it.
Weekend #2
Focus is on learning a game about modifying social situations to make them more meaningful for oneself.
- Entering social contexts with different meaning-related goals: trying to make things more creative, honest, wild, etc.
- Practicing "social moves" that help with the above (like playing with status, dynamics, shifts in topic, body language, etc) by working from a menu of social moves.
- Finally, we'll play a game where we notice, in realtime, the kind of meaning we want more of, and use these social moves to try and get it.
By the end of the weekend, you should be a beginner in this game, and be able to play it locally amongst yourselves.
