All mandates should have a clear, written remit defining their role, composition and scope of authority. These should be periodically reviewed and updated. We think that it is important that no one person holds more than 3 Mandates.

As a Mandate holder you:

  1. Accept to hold a Mandate for one year, recommit to holding the Mandate at each Autumn team retreat for the following year.
  2. Review the Mandate spec and be clear that you agree with it. If you want to add or change something bring it to the Mandates meeting.
  3. Gather a Resource Group. People with the energy and skills to be part of the group that will make things happen in the Mandate area.
  4. Find a way to be in regular communication with your resource group. Make notes of your meetings and put them in your folder on google drive.
  5. If you want to pass on your Mandate think about who you could train up or find to take over that Mandate and then share that with other Mandate holders. Ultimately the Trustees must have confidence in the person you are suggesting to be the new Mandate holder.
  6. Attend Mandate meetings (or find someone to represent the Mandate)
  7. If you want to let go of your Mandate, please let Mandate holders know in advance of the meeting, to give time for making suggestions about who the next Mandate holder might be.

As a mandate holder you’ll often work with a particular resource group or circle.
