Foraging is a way to connect with the diversity and abundance of the non-human. Things which are considered weeds are edible, and they're not owned by anyone.
Foraging is the last commons we have, because these plants seed themselves beyond the rule of fences and boundaries. The key to accessing these commons is knowledge.
By sharing knowledge of what wild foods can and can't be eaten, we are supporting and encouraging one another to take ownership of the natural landscape. If we look at a hedgerow or a patch of nettles and see free food, we value that space and the cycles which reproduce it.
Once you start noticing and naming the different plants, you become curious about the abundance and variety of plant-life in our area, which means we pay more attention to biodiversity.
From where you're standing, how many different plants can you see? look at the ground, the trees, etc.
What is your earliest memory of wild food?
