A view is a way to visualize one or a set of lime records. The easiest way to understand the concept is to look at the different views we have in CRM today.

The card view

This one, you’re familiar with. It’s the only view in the web client that only shows one record at a time.

The table view

The table view is great for getting an overview of your data. The table view also has features that other views do not have (yet), such as selecting rows, sum values or get an average.

The list view

The list view is great for smaller screens and when you want information presented in a more compact format.

We use it in 🔍 Find for search results and list of recently visited. The list view has features such as action menu and show file icon (for documents).

The flow

The flow is great for things that happen on a timeline. We often use it for History. It also has an action menu and icons next to each record that increase readability. It should always be sorted by a specific date.

Other apps that use views

You might not have thought about it, but this concept has been around for decades. Just have a look in your operating system, in the file browser.

Windows Explorer lets you choose between eight different views. Other file explorers have similar features.

The future of views

Anytime you want to visualize one or several lime objects in a different way, building a view is a great option. By only creating a view, and not a completely different user interface, you can still use common things as actions, filters and navigation.
