The first official day of summer in the UK is the 21st June 2021.

<aside> 🌞 "Astronomical Summer" is the first day of summer and is defined by the Earth's axis and orbit around the sun. The seasons are determined by the astronomical calendar and the 23.5 degrees tilt of the Earth's rotational axis in relation to its orbit. Equinoxes and Solstices are both related to the Earth's orbit around the sun.

Exercising your dogs

During hot summer months the optimum time to walk your dog is during the cooler part of the day.

Walks in the early morning or later evening are the optimal times rather than walking in the hottest part of the day. Keep your dog cool on walks by choosing shady areas and using a cool coat.

Some breeds are much more temperature sensitive than others and always keep in mind the humidity level as well as the temperature for that day.

On some summer days it's just too hot to walk your dog, so let them find some cool shade in the garden or the house to keep comfortable. Provide plenty of cool, fresh water and the use of fans, cool mats, cool coats and natural breezes can all help.

If your dog is having less exercise during the warmer months, use feeding enrichment as a form of mental stimulation.
