5.1 Understanding Disease Hierarchy
Diseases can be organized hierarchically with parent-child relationships.

- Influenza (parent)
- Influenza A (child)

- Influenza B (child)
Usage
- Users select specific disease (often the lowest level)
- Reporting can roll up to parent levels
- Access can cascade to children
Hierarchy fields
- ParentDiseaseId
- Level (0 = top-level)
- PathIds

Purpose: Group diseases for reporting (separate from hierarchy)
Path: Settings → Disease Categories
