Importing Figures and Images into Inkscape

Frequently, figures now encompass multiple panels (or figures within a larger figure). These can be some that we made in Inkscape or other programs:

To import an image, select Import... and select the image you want to import.

If the Image is a Bitmap file type

In general, we can leave the following options alone.

Then hit OK and the image will import. If the image is large and file size is a concern, select Blocky.

If the Image is a Vector-based file type

A PDF importer will pop-up with a variety or options.

First, I increase the Precisions of Gradient Meshes to the highest number.

I then do not embed images or replace fonts.

Then finally I select Poppler/Cairo Import since this is the most common library (I use) for other images (in my case from R).
