There’s a version of independence that’s healthy.
And then there’s the kind that’s born from neglect.
Many of us didn’t choose to be strong—we had to.
When there was no one to rely on, we stopped asking.
We handled things ourselves.
And over time, that became our identity:
“I’m fine.”
“I’ll figure it out.”
“I don’t need anyone.”
But this isn’t strength. It’s what we had to become when support was never safe.
