“Tell us about yourself”

"We’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to fail and learn from their mistakes. Tell us about a time you failed spectacularly at something and how you responded to, or recovered from, that experience.”

What is your favorite product right now?

This thing is so helpful. It’s a set of rules and functions that you can use in complex ways to solve problems and see things in different perspectives. It’s perfect. I mean, it’s not “perfect”. But that’s not the point. The point is that I can finally create something digitally that feels like “mine”.

It’s not a productivity app, or something like that. It’s a development platform. By that I mean it’s a digital tool that you can use to develop systems for your life as a way to better guide your decision making. Powerful stuff.

What product did you recently stop using because of the experience?

Hooooly butts. Cigna’s website.

I hate it. Not all of it, but it’s endlessly frustrating to use their “Find Care” feature. There’s no follow through. Sure I can search by different criteria, but it doesn’t connect me to the actual doctor or hospital on the other end. So what’s the point? Maybe it’s just me, and how my brain processes information. I don’t know. But it’s been a few times now that after an hour of struggling I had to put it down and walk away. Which has delayed me getting care. Not a fan.

Walk me through your design process.

Learn about my partners, dig into their experiences, identify opportunities, ideate like crazy, make quick and dirty mock-ups, test test test, step back, make it pretty, and release. Do it again.

I also use ⬇️  as a guide for facing all my problems. It’s also the best career advice I’ve ever come across.
