Why this page exists

This drift has recurred for months. Content skills (the merged brand-voice / copy-patterns reference) carried a "Do NOT handle" list that included slip and fall, premises liability, and dog bites. That list was lifted from the Google Ads negative-keyword strategy (the firm does not BUY those leads) and was wrongly applied as case-intake scope. A 2026-06-04 handoff already flagged the firm was "incorrectly listed as NOT handling premises / slip-and-fall / dog bites." Sam confirmed 2026-06-04: the firm handles dog bite and dram shop. This page is the single source of truth; skills should reference it rather than restating scope inline.

Canonical scope (authoritative)

Primary focus, motor vehicle crashes (all types): car, truck and commercial vehicle, motorcycle, delivery vehicle, rideshare (Uber/Lyft), pedestrian, hit-and-run, bus, ATV, bicycle, moped, semi-truck, and crash-related wrongful death.

Secondary, HANDLED as cases (the firm does not pay for leads here, but does take the cases): slip and fall, premises liability, dog bite, dram shop, insurance bad faith, non-crash wrongful death. Live pages and /lex-cases/ spokes exist for several of these (dog bite, dram shop).

Genuinely NOT handled: medical malpractice, workers' compensation (referral partner exists), mass torts, civil rights, product liability unless vehicle-related, anything outside personal injury.

The distinction that keeps getting lost

Scope (do we take the case) is NOT the same as paid-lead targeting (do we buy the keyword). Slip and fall, premises, dog bite, and dram shop are YES on scope and NO on paid ads. The Google Ads negative-keyword lists for these terms are intentional and must stay in place. Never write website content, FAQs, or "motor vehicle only" language implying these case types are turned away.

What was corrected 2026-06-04

Writable source files updated (git-reversible): /Projects/.claude/skills/firm-briefing/SKILL.md, firm-briefing-SLIM-DRAFT-2026-06-08.md, firm-briefing-MERGED-DRAFT-2026-06-04.md. Each now lists premises + dram shop under secondary-handled and carries a "scope vs paid leads" clarifier.

Still requires Sam / a refresh (cannot be hot-edited from a Cowork session)

The INSTALLED Cowork skills copywriting-design-brand-voice and copywriting-and-design still contain references/copy-patterns.md with a "## Do NOT handle" block listing slip and fall, premises liability, and dog bites. That file lives only in the read-only skill cache and the sail-marketing/sail-templates GitHub source; a Cowork session cannot persist edits to installed skills. Fix path: edit copy-patterns.md in the source repo (sail-marketing) and refresh via Settings > Capabilities, or have an agent with repo write access PR it. firm-reference/SKILL.md (read-only cache) also omits dram shop and premises from its secondary list and should get the same edit at the source.
