This is the companion guide to your Master Prompt Book. The book holds every prompt you use. This page shows you how to take any one of them and turn it into a Claude skill, which is a prompt that just runs when you ask, instead of something you copy and paste and tweak every time. Read Part 1 once to get set up. Come back to Part 2 every time you want to build a new skill. The takeaway is simple. Start with the five prompts you reach for most, build those into skills first, and let the rest follow.

Part 1: Set up Claude on your computer (do this once)

This part is for anyone starting from scratch. If you are already inside the Cowork app, skip down to Part 2.

  1. Go to claude.com/download and download the Claude desktop app. There is a version for Mac and a version for Windows, so grab the one that matches your computer. The Windows version launched in February 2026, so make sure you are on the current release.
  2. Install it like any other app, then open it and sign in with your Claude account. Cowork runs on a paid plan, so you need Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise. If you are on the free plan, upgrade first.
  3. Look at the top of the app. You will see three tabs: Chat, Cowork, and Code. Click Cowork. That is the workspace where Claude can take on full multi-step jobs for you.
  4. Cowork will ask you to pick a folder to work in. Start with something simple and non-sensitive, like a folder on your desktop. This is the space where Claude can read your files and save its work.
  5. Turn on the skill builder. Open the Customize menu in the left sidebar. That menu is the home for your plugins, skills, and connectors. Find the one called Skill Creator and make sure it is turned on. If you do not see it yet, open the Plugins tab, click Browse plugins, and install the pack that includes Skill Creator.

That is the whole setup. You only do it once.

Part 2: Turn a prompt from your book into a skill

Repeat these steps for any prompt you want to make into a skill. Each entry in your Master Prompt Book already hands you everything Claude will ask for.

  1. Open your Master Prompt Book and pick the prompt you want. Copy the full prompt text from inside the entry, along with its When to use line. Both are right there in the entry.
  2. In Cowork, start a new session and say: Use the skill creator to turn this prompt into a skill. Then paste the prompt and the When to use line underneath.
  3. Claude will ask you a few plain-English questions. What should we name it. When should it kick in. What should the finished result look like. You do not have to guess. The Notion entry already gives you the Skill Name, the Slug, the When to use, and the Inputs to fill in, so just read those right off the card.
  4. Claude writes the skill for you behind the scenes. It may offer to test it on a quick example. Say yes. Look at what comes back and tell it what to fix in normal words, like make it shorter or add a call to action at the end.
  5. When it looks right, ask Claude to package it. It creates a small skill file and gives you a Save skill button or a link to the file.
  6. Install it. Click Save skill, or go to the Customize menu, open Skills, and add the file. Done. The skill is now part of your Claude.
