Hey, Dr. Brown here.

If you asked for this, my guess is you’ve tried a lot of things for your skin: creams, cleansers, prescriptions, maybe even changing your entire skincare routine, and it still keeps coming back.

Here’s what most people don’t realize: your skin and your gut are constantly communicating.

We call this the gut-skin axis. It means the bacteria in your gut, your immune system, inflammation, and even the lining of your intestines can all influence what shows up on your skin.

So when I see adult acne, eczema, or rosacea that keeps flaring no matter what someone puts on their face, I don’t just think, “skin problem.” I also want to know what’s happening inside.

For the next 21 days, remove dairy, gluten, and alcohol and keep the rest of your food as simple as possible. Focus on protein, whole foods, cooked vegetables, plenty of water, and cutting back on sugar and ultra-processed foods.

Take a photo of your skin each morning in the same lighting so you can actually see what’s changing instead of guessing day to day.

Pay attention to your gut at the same time. Notice if bloating, gas, constipation, reflux, or cramping improves while your skin calms down.

At the end of 21 days, bring foods back one at a time. Don’t add dairy, gluten, and alcohol back on the same weekend, because then you won’t know what your body reacted to.

If your skin flares when one comes back in, that gives you a real clue.

Give it 21 days, track what happens, and let your body show you what it’s been reacting to.
