Mr. Medina has a 1991 felony conviction for falsely inflating his income on a bank loan application, and he’s arguing that the passage of time combined with the relative non-seriousness of his felony make it unconstitutional to continue to ban him from possessing firearms. He lost at the DC district level, and the DC Circuit heard oral arguments in fall 2018. If this gets appealed up to SCOTUS, by the time briefs are filed, the cert grant/denial would come down in late 2019. If it's granted, SCOTUS will hear the case sometime in 2020.

Alan Gura is counsel on this one.

Update: the DC Circuit ruled against Medina on January 18, 2019. Next stop, either asking for an en banc rehearing or petitioning SCOTUS for cert. We'll have the results of that next action around Q3 2019.

Update September 14, 2019: cert petition filed with SCOTUS on August 30, Barr's response is due October 4. By the time that and then the reply and amicus briefs are filed, we can probably expect the Court to decide on cert in Q1 2020.

Update November 20, 2019: distributed for conference of December 6.
