Introduction

Another thing to consider in Diversity reporting is looking at where funding (and thus opportunity) is going.

Atomico partnered with Diversity VC in 2018 to publish The Current State of Diversity and Inclusion in Tech, a guide written specifically for founders in the tech industry - we’ll include a link to the PDF version in the Additional Reading section below.

This interactive guide comes with lots of great information - but as is common with many guides and reports of the topic, it gets in its own way considering of accessibility.

Due to its density and mass of the report, there are significant reading comprehension challenges.

It's difficult to digest everything within the report, and by no means are we suggesting you undertake such a task.

In chapter 1 (1. Introduction of Scale) we acknowledged that by nature, the scale/range of information and authorities regarding Diversity and Inclusion. especially in tech, may always be daunting to comprehend.

We are not suggesting that D&I reporting should be centralized, more rather, we acknowledge this to our audience, having undergone the effort to bring you what we believe are the essentials.

Diversity & Inclusion in The State of European Tech 2019 Report | Atomico

To quote Steve O'Hear from TechCrunch:

"What kind of progress do I think the European tech community has made towards increasing diversity and inclusion in the past 12 months? The slow kind."

The D&I section in Atomico’s State of European Tech does a particularly good job at providing a summary of VC funding reports in Europe. Its key finding? There is no material improvement in the share of capital invested in European tech companies going to diverse founding teams.

The report is a welcome look at the industry outside of Silicon Valley, which is the focus of English-language reporting. The rest of the guide is worth a read as well, but again, it consists of so much content that it can be difficult to wade through - a sysiphean task if you’re reading on mobile.

Does European tech still lack diversity and inclusion?
