My name is Cong Liu. I work in a Chinese national lab now — but I didn’t always look this serious.

我叫 刘聪。我现在在一家中国的国家实验室工作——但我并不是一直都这么严肃的。

I come from a small village in Hunan, China. It’s a small village you probably never heard of — Hengyang — but it’s where my story began.

我来自中国湖南的一个小村庄。这个地方你们可能从未听说过——衡阳——但我的故事就从那里开始。

Before I became a researcher,

在成为一名研究人员之前，

I was just a child like many rural kids —

我只是一个和无数乡村孩子一样的孩子——

curious about the world, and unsure about the future.

对世界充满好奇，却对未来感到迷茫。

Twenty-three years ago, university students from Hunan launched the Nanyan Project to bring education to rural children.

二十三年前，来自湖南的大学生们发起了“南雁计划”，为乡村的孩子们带去教育的希望。

I was one of those children — and years later, I joined Nanyan.

我曾是那些孩子中的一员——而多年以后，我也成为了南雁的一部分。
