Steps To Take When Creating IAM Users

1. Log into the AWS dashboard

2. In the search dialogue box at the top of the page, Type in IAM and Select IAM (Manage access to AWS resources) from the search result.

3. Change Account Id to an Organization name by selecting Create under Account Alias

   

   • Nb: The New Account Id will be attached to the Sign In URL IAM Users will use when signing in.
   • Click Create and add an account Id name. This can be the same as the AWS Account Name.
   • Enter name and select Create Alias.

4. Select Users by the left side of the screen, (Under dashboard)

   

5. Select Create User

   Fill in User Details

   • Create User Username

   • Select Provide User Access to AWS Management Console

     

   • Select I want to create an IAM User

   • You can autogenerate User password

   • Select user must create a new password at next sign in (Recommended)

   • Click Next

6. Set Permission

   Skip for now and click next, then Select Create User.

7. Download .Csv File, Then Select return to user list

   

   • Attach the downloaded file in an email and send it to the owner/user.
   • Nb: When a user tries to log in, he/she will be required to change password.
   • Confirm password and continue to log in.

To Add MFA(Multi-Factor Authentication) to A User

1. Go back to IAM
2. Select Users under dashboard
3. Select the created user account by clicking on the users name under users.
4. Select Security Credentials

   • Scroll down to MFA

   • Select Assign MFA Device

     

   • Select Authenticator App

   • Create Device name - Example: Peter-Developer-MFA

   • Click Next

   • Download Google Authenticator app on your mobile phone from Playstore or Apple Store

   • Scan QR Code or Show Secret Key (in AWS Console)

   • Enter Code from Google Authenticator App

   • Wait 30 seconds and enter a second code from Google Authenticator App

   • Select Add MFA to complete.

Try Logging out and Re-Login to confirm MFA is active.

Enter User Login details and enter MFA

• Repeat the above steps to create other users.
