It would be amazing to have examples of any visual or other storytelling work you’ve done so far, be it your instagram or a story in a city magazine.

WHumans is built around stories. Because in the end, our stories are all we have. Everyone has a story to tell, even the most ordinary-seeming person. Sometimes they just need a little help to let it shine. This is what the author does – or, as we call them, the creator.

First, find a protagonist – your hero. Talk to them (see document template interview, collect material, write a short summary of the story you want to tell and send it to us.

If you don’t have the skills or resources to put the story together yourself – if you’re unsure how to format the text or unable to edit the pictures, for instance – just send us your raw material. We will implement your vision with you.

What do you need to make a story?

It’s obvious:

• Your hero’s name. (If your hero can’t disclose their name for any reason, we will of course preserve their anonymity.)
• A short introductory text that explains the essence of the story and creates curiosity.
• The questions you ask the hero – in writing, as an audio recording or on video.
• The character’s or creator’s direct speech.
• Some text that links the individual parts of your story and makes it a cohesive whole.
• Photos or video to illustrate your story. They may show your hero’s life, their everyday surroundings or anything else that’s relevant to the story. If your hero needs to stay anonymous, you can work with illustrations or stock images or videos. Or simply avoid showing any features that would allow others to recognize them.
• A (public domain, original, or open license!) musical composition or some other sound recording – your hero’s voice as they tell their story, ambient sounds from the place where you met or interviewed them etc.
• Your hero’s location (country, city/village, neighborhood if relevant).
