Language as Gift

For Noam Chomsky (1993), it is an “innate” reality, while Søren Kierkegaard construes it as “something originally given and partly which develops freely” (quoted by Bretall 1993, 12). Ben Elson’s Linguistic Creed clearly holds that language is “one of God’s most important gifts to man” (1987). (172)
