Basic server info

• Ubuntu 20.04.1 droplet on digitalocean.com (get $100 in free credits)
  • Or use Ubuntu 18.04 (see below)
• 1 VCPU, 2GB RAM, 2GB swap
• Firewall accepts HTTP and HTTPS-connections from everywhere, and SSH-connections from a private machine.
• Domain name assigned to droplet
• VNC server, only running when needed

Installs

• Java 8 and 11
  • v8 is the system default (using update-alternatives) and required for Essential AM
  • v11 had been preinstalled
• Tomcat 9
• Apache 2 with several subdomains, SSL and integrated with Tomcat
• MySQL 5.7 (v8, the default for Ubuntu 20.04, is not supported)
  • Note: you could start with Ubuntu 18.04 which has MySQL 5.7 as the default
