1) Societal advancement requires innovative solutions

An increasingly complex world requires the constant development of innovative techniques.

2) Clarke's Second Law

The only way of discovering the limits of possibility is to venture a little ways past them into impossibility.

3) Diversity is necessary for innovation

In an increasingly global society, we are more connected than ever. An individual’s perspective is a culmination of their unique experiences of the world. It’s only through dialogue with other people, who have distinct life experiences, that new ideas can be uncovered.

4) Theory and practice are inseparable

To separate Theory from Practice, is to alienate those who may not have the resources to naturally understand the matter at hand—it fails to compound. True theory, however, is built upon an open network of knowledge which only grows through practice and repetition.

5) Refine > Replace

Human creativity doesn’t just enable us to solve problems, it enables us to add value to what already exists. The answer is often to refine, not replace.

6) Innovation Measured by Impact

Innovation is only as impactful as the amount of people it adds value for, not the amount of value  it adds for a single person.

7) Avoid rigidity in process

Not to be confused with a lack of process altogether, but instead prioritizing freedom in creativity and research so that ideas are able to emerge naturally.

8) Research must be public-facing

The betterment of the masses cannot be achieved from inside privatized walls. Public-facing research establishes rules and ethics to work by, and serves as a personal commitment to a higher standard of work. Because of this, our roles are three-fold: to research, to educate and to share.

9) Opportunity is the precursor to success

For every singular case of success, there are an infinite number of failed experiments that came before. Innovation is the result of the consistent application of techniques that are unfamiliar, and the adaptation of routines to ever-changing circumstances.
